Wycombe Wanderers have pulled off the signing their supporters have been craving all summer with the return of Fred Onyedinma to the club on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old played eight times in the Premier League earlier this year for Luton Town having helped the Hatters win promotion in his second season, and also impressed for Rotherham United during a loan spell last term.
His affiliation with the Chairboys stretches back to 2014 when he arrived on loan from Millwall as a teenager, scoring eight times in 27 appearances in his first full season as a professional, and became a regular in the Lions’ side at both League 1 and Championship level before returning to Adams Park on loan in 2018.
He made a permanent switch to Wycombe in 2019 and played an integral role in the Chairboys’ rise to the Championship, scoring twice in the play-off semi-final second leg tie against Fleetwood Town and winning the decisive penalty in the final at Wembley.
Fred adapted seamlessly to life in the second tier with Wycombe, scoring memorable winners against Reading and Blackburn Rovers as well as netting the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur in an FA Cup tie at Adams Park.
He departed for Luton in 2021 but ended his spell at Kenilworth Road this summer and sealed his return to Wycombe on Monday afternoon after completing his medical at Harlington.

Matt Bloomfield commented: “Fred has been one of the stand-out performers in each of his three previous spells with Wycombe and we’re delighted that he’s agreed to come back and be part of the exciting squad that we are building here.
“Playing Premier League football last year was the reward for the hard work he’s put in throughout his career at all four levels, and demonstrates the quality he has in a number of different positions, either as a wing-back or a winger on either side of the pitch.
“He’s someone we’ve been keen to sign throughout the summer and I know there have been various options available to him, but for him to choose Wycombe Wanderers speaks volumes for the relationship he has with the club and its fans, and also his determination to help this club grow.
“This news will be hugely exciting for our supporters and I’m sure they can’t wait to see him pull the shirt on again and show what he can do. We’ve all been working extremely hard as a collective behind the scenes to continue to build this club. Fred is central to this.”
The move remains subject to EFL and FA approval.
