Matt Bloomfield has strengthened his squad with the capture of Shrewsbury Town’s captain and Supporters’ Player of the Year, Luke Leahy, subject to EFL and FA approval.

The 30-year-old finished as the Shrews’ top scorer last term with 12 goals in all competitions, and arrives with a wealth of experience with Falkirk, Walsall and Bristol Rovers previously.

Leahy, a set-piece specialist, is a versatile operator capable of playing in a number of positions, and becomes Bloomfield’s third new signing of the summer following the arrivals of Richard Keogh and Kian Breckin.

“Luke has just had an outstanding season with Shrewsbury Town and I’m delighted that he’s agreed to come and join us,” said Bloomfield. “He’s got a fantastic left foot, he can play in midfield or anywhere down the left, and he’s got a really impressive goal return over the years.

“As well as that, he’s got great battling qualities and he’s a leader, which are really key components for me and he will be an important player in this team that’s coming together nicely now with three strong additions.

Luke will wear squad number 10 for the Blues.
