The Chairgirls were away to league rivals Oxford City at the RAW Charging Stadium on Sunday, coming out of top in a seven-goal thriller.

The Wanderers served notice of their intentions to their host as the attacking quintet of Grimm, Attfield, Sword, Riddington and Harris tore into Oxford City.  The visitors were duly rewarded for their proactive approach with a well taken goal by Esmee Sword on seven minutes after being set up by Sophie Attfield.

Wycombe extended their lead in the 37th minute following good work by Emma Kern who found Katie Riddington with a neat through ball which was chipped home past the Oxford goalkeeper.

Oxford City came out for the second half looking for an early goal and got it in the 54 minutes. Wycombe struck back through a penalty dispatched by Katie Riddington on 60th minute. The hosts continued their bombardment of the Wycombe goal and were rewarded with goals on 63 and 75 minutes to draw level at 3-3.

Manager Carl Simon then introduced three of his U18 substitutes in the 79th minute to great effect as they injected the Chairgirls with fresh impetus and drive which was reward by a spectacular winning goal by Katie Riddington following a deflect shot by Amelia Sage.

He said. “I am immensely proud of my players today and more importantly the culture we are developing here. We want players representing our first team to be humble, professional, and honest and that is what we had on our bench today.

"Emma Newberry came off the bench to do an important job managing our defensive line in the 67th minute and the introduction of Charlotte Hill, Amelia Sage and Keira O’Leary on 79 minutes ultimately helped us to regain the initiative and win the game.”

Player of the Match was Katie Riddington who was outstanding, both with and without the ball., effective in all phases of the game and completed a well-deserved hat trick.

Simon added: “I am really pleased for Katie. She has worked extremely hard all season to adapt and acclimatise to this league and I think she arrived today.”

Wycombe Wanderers Women's Reserves clinched a penalty shootout win at New Bradwell St Peter Ladies in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Cup this weekend.

A big result gave a huge boost to the Chairgirls’ confidence and motivation for the rest of the season.

Wycombe started the game well and played down the left hand side for Charlotte Potter to score. The goal came after a good pass by Shannon Read put Potter one on one with the keeper where she finished well.

Just before half time New Bradwell levelled the game and with no other goals coming in the second half, this cup tie went straight to penalties.

New Bradwell were handed the role of taking the first penalty and slotted their first three to take a commanding lead. Wycombe had missed their first two penalties before a role reverse saw the Chairgirls take the win thanks to a Mariella (Bella) Fulton winning penalty to win the game 4-3 for Wycombe Wanderers.

The reserves manager said after the game: ‘’I am incredibly proud of how the team fought all the way till the end. Our focus now returns to the league to get the results our performances deserve."
