Keeper signs one-year deal.

Wycombe Wanderers are delighted to welcome David Stockdale back to the club ahead of the new Championship season, with the goalkeeper signing a one-year contract after leaving Birmingham City.

The former York, Darlington and Fulham stopper starred for Brighton in their promotion-winning Championship campaign in 2017, earning a place in the divisional PFA Team of the Year, but found first-team opportunities limited after switching to Birmingham and spent two spells on loan with the Chairboys in November 2018 and again from January 2020 until the end of last season.

Stockdale, 34, has continued to train with the Blues and featured in all three pre-season games, penning his new deal just days before the season gets underway with the visit of Rotherham United to Adams Park on Saturday.

“Stocko is an important addition to the squad and I’m delighted that he’s agreed to join us on a permanent deal,” said Ainsworth. “He has a huge amount of experience at this level, and he’ll be working hard to recapture that form to provide really strong competition for the number 1 shirt which currently sits with Rocky (Ryan Allsop), and deservedly so because of how well Ryan performed throughout the whole of last season.

“David is really well suited to us in terms of his character around the place and the hard work ethic he shows in training, which helps to push himself on and also those around him including the two young keepers we have on our books now (Cameron Yates and Curtis Anderson).

“It’s great to have him back with us and we’re really pleased with the work that we’ve been able to do – with huge thanks to Rob and Pete Couhig, and Andrew Howard – in strengthening the squad in a number of positions to get us ready for the challenge of the Championship.”
